ABOUT BACKYARD BACH

Backyard Bach was created due to the lack of affordable housing within our communities.  The lack of land or the lack of inexpensive land.   The opportunities for us to build new is getting less and lass due to the cost of design, consent, council requirements etc

 

Over many months of research we discovered we could design smaller buildings to suit our changing home needs, that could be built on land that we already own.

Family circumstances are changing and we need to allow for our families to unite in an area suitable for everyone but without feeling like we are in each others space.  You will see several generations coming together again as times are changing.

Most parts of New Zealand, the Territorial Authorities (Local Councils) will allow you to build a smaller building (30sqm) on your section as of right.    Kapiti council will allow building a 54 square metre home or as our council calls them "family flat".  All we need to do is apply for a building consent.  We do NOT need to apply for a Resource Consent or subdivide our land to allow this additional building to be built.  There are of course rules around this which we address and adhere to in our designs.  If you do NOT need to apply for Resource Consents or Subdivide your land you are saving thousands of dollars and also many months.
